Summertime in Etna Borough



Congratulations! You made it through another Pittsburgh winter. Now that the days are getting longer and warmer, it's time to look forward to summer activities in our community.


Summer officially kicks off on Memorial Day, and Etna Borough is excited to announce that the annual Memorial Day Parade is back this year, which will begin at on Butler Street at 9:30 am on Monday, May 30th. Prior the parade, a service will be held at Etna Cemetery at 8:45 am and another service will be held at the Etna War Memorial at 11:30 am. All services will be performed by the American Legion Post 597 and VFW Post 9197.


The Etna Pool opens on Saturday, June 4th, to coincide with the closing of Shaler schools. The pool will be open from noon-7 pm daily. You can pick up your season passes at the borough building now! Water aerobics will also be back this summer every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-8 pm. The cost is $3 for season pass holders and $5 for regular admission.


Also at the Etna playground, the Shaler North Hills Library will be hosting their free summer reading program once again. Every Thursday from 2-3, SNHL will bring books to borrow and will offer free concerts by SASD and Slippery Rock University Bands throughout the summer. The program goes through August 18th.


The EEDC Carnival well be held at the Borough Ballfields from June 21st-25th with festivities beginning each night at 6 pm.


Free youth crafts will be available at the playground from 1-3 pm on June 22nd, July 6th, and August 3rd, and the Allegheny County Rangers will be hosting their "Owls" program on July 20th and their "Bugs and Insects" program on August 6th.


Riverfront Yoga is happening each Thursday at the Etna Riverfront Trail and Park from 6:30-7:30. Bring some water and your yoga mat (though extra mats are available) and a small donation for the instructor to get your flow on!


The Garden of Etna will be open to the community each Wednesday from 6:30-8 pm to gather with the gardeners. Come to enjoy the beautiful evenings, pull some weeds and get some gardening tips. Free dinner will be provided the first Wednesday of the month! GoE will also host a community-wide potluck dinner on June 18th from 5-7 pm.


Finally, the Etna Neighborhood Association will be hosting Pickle Ball at the Etna Deck Hockey Rink Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-9 pm. Pickle Ball players 16 and over can check out the equipment (waivers required.) The ENA will also host its annual Community Day on August 6th from 12-4!
