In December 2020, ECO's founding Director, Alexis Boytim, stepped down to take a position at Powdermill Nature Reserve and pursue a career in environmental research. We owe a great deal to Alexis, who stewarded our community to become the world's first Certified EcoDistrict. During her two years as Director, Alexis brought our community together with her hard work, positive energy, and commitment to social equity. Clearly, she leaves some big shoes to fill, a task that will be taken on by Etna Councilwoman and former ECO Board Member Megan Tuñón.
Megan is a seven-year resident of Etna Borough who joined the Borough Council in 2018. She has been an integral team member of the Etna EcoDistrict journey and brings an intimate knowledge of the process, our community, and our goals for the future. Over the past two years on ECO's Board, Megan has served as ECO's lead fundraiser and leader of the Etna Community Library project. She has a strong commitment to the community, made evident by her multiple service roles and her choice to raise her family in Etna.
Megan's goals are to advance the projects and programs set forth by the community in the Etna EcoDistrict Plan, expand the organization's relationships to partners in the region, and be a conduit for community members to bring their ideas to life. She is really looking forward to the day when the community can gather again and work towards a brighter future together.
